Challenge to Anglo notes adjourned

A challenge to the Government’s decision to issue €30 billion worth of promissory notes to the former Anglo Irish Bank, the EBS and the Irish Nationwide Building Society has been adjourned until next month.

David Hall brought the challenge aimed at having the notes declared void.

He claims the decision to issue them was never approved by the elected members of the Dáil.

He also claims the provisions of two acts which allowed the Government to issue the notes are unconstitutional.

Lawyers for the Minister for Finance, the Central Bank, the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation and the EBS were present in court this morning.

The case will be mentioned in court again on April 17.
